Cell Broth Clarification

The fermentation broth produced from different microbial sources (fungal, yeast, or bacteria) has to be harvested prior to the recovery of target molecules such as proteins and enzymes from cultivation media. Compared to centrifugation techniques which can be costly and challenging, crossflow microfiltration technology can be used as a cost-effective alternative to clarify the fermentation broth without changing the nature and activity of the target molecules. Among the different target molecules, some famous examples include penicillin and lactic acid recovery from fermentation broth via microfiltration.

Synder offers flat sheet membrane and spiral wound elements in 2”, 4”, 6” and 8” diameters with a selection of different feed channel spacers to match your clarification needs.

Benefits of membrane process

  1. Cost-effective method for broth clarification
  2. Improve process efficiency and simplify separation requirements
