Synder Introduces Open Channel Ribbed Spacer for High Solids Applications

Synder Filtration is pleased to announce the addition of a new, 80mil open channel ribbed spacer, which showed an average pressure drop reduction of 37% compared to the standard diamond spacer in our in-house studies. These ribbed spacers are well-suited for a variety of high solids applications such as whey protein concentration, and have the potential to reduce energy consumption and increase total solid loading capacity. Case Study Summary In three independent trials, Synder ST (PES10kDa) 2540 elements containing either 80mil standard diamond or 80mil open channel ribbed spacers were challenged with 20wt% sweet whey. Though there was no significant difference in flux performance, there was a notable distinction between the two spacer configurations in terms of pressure drop. The open channel ribbed spacers showed an average pressure drop reduction of 37% compared to the standard diamond spacer. Given these results, the open channel ribbed spacers have the potential to increase the element run time between CIPs and reduce both energy consumption and operating costs.
